Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about wallets, networks, gas, transaction hashes, DApps, signatures, approvals, EVM, Layer 2, Ethereum, PoS, validators, and security.
What is a digital wallet?
A digital wallet manages blockchain accounts controlled by private keys and helps users view addresses, balances, transactions, and DApp requests. Asset state is recorded by the relevant blockchain rather than stored inside the wallet interface.
How are a seed phrase and a private key different?
A seed phrase commonly recovers a deterministic group of wallet accounts, while a private key directly controls a specific address. Both are highly sensitive and should never be sent to another person or entered into an unfamiliar website.
Why confirm the network before receiving assets?
Assets with the same name can exist on different networks and address formats can sometimes look similar. Confirming the network reduces the risk of sending into the wrong chain context.
What is gas?
Gas represents the computational resources required to execute a blockchain transaction or smart contract. The amount paid depends on network rules, transaction complexity, and current demand.
What is a transaction hash used for?
A transaction hash is a unique reference for locating an on-chain transaction in a block explorer and reviewing broadcast, inclusion, execution result, and confirmation status.
What if the wallet balance has not updated?
First confirm the selected network, then check the transaction hash and on-chain state in a block explorer. Node synchronization or interface refresh delays can make the display lag behind the chain.
Does connecting a DApp approve my tokens?
No. A connection generally establishes an account session. Token approvals are separate on-chain requests, and signatures and transactions should also be reviewed independently.
Are message signatures always safe?
No. A message signature may be used for login, but some signatures can authorize later actions. Review the domain, account, content, and context before signing.
What is a token approval?
A token approval allows a specified contract to operate a token within an allowance. Review the spender, allowance, and network, and consider revoking permissions that are no longer needed.
Does disconnecting a DApp revoke approvals?
No. Disconnecting ends the session, while token allowances recorded on-chain normally remain until they are changed or revoked with another transaction.
Why do EVM network addresses look the same?
Many EVM-compatible networks use the same address format, but they remain independent networks with different gas assets, histories, contracts, and security assumptions.
How does Layer 2 relate to a base chain?
A Layer 2 moves some execution or data work away from the base chain and uses a specific mechanism to connect back to it for security or settlement. Bridge and exit rules vary by design.
Can an on-chain transaction be reversed?
A confirmed blockchain transaction generally cannot be unilaterally reversed by a wallet, which is why the network, address, amount, and asset should be reviewed before sending.
Will imtoken ask for my seed phrase?
No. imtoken will never ask for a seed phrase, private key, or verification code, and these secrets should not be submitted through websites, chats, or support tickets.
What should I do with an unfamiliar NFT or airdrop?
Do not immediately follow links or connect a wallet because an asset appears to be free. Verify the contract, source, and network first; unsolicited assets can be used to lead users to phishing sites.
Does Ethereum staking guarantee a return?
No. Staking rewards can change with protocol conditions, validator performance, and participation, and staking can involve exit delays, penalties, contract risk, and third-party service risk.
What is a PoS validator?
A validator participates in block proposals and attestations under proof-of-stake protocol rules and is expected to remain operational. Downtime or misconduct can affect rewards and trigger penalties.
What should I do after a suspicious transaction or signature request?
Stop new signatures and approvals, record non-secret references such as the network, transaction hash, public address, and domain, and verify through an independent channel. Never disclose a private key or seed phrase.
Still checking a transaction?
Keep the network, transaction hash, public address, and request details available, but never share recovery secrets.
